cochraneCRSP is pleased to announce that John Cochrane will be kicking off the CRSP Forum 2008 on Monday morning, November 3. His keynote speech is titled "The Second Revolution in Finance."

Professor Cochrane is the Myron S. Scholes Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. He conducts research on dynamics in stock and bond markets, the volatility of exchange rates, the term structure of interest rates, the returns to venture capital, liquidity premiums in stock prices, the relation between stock prices and business cycles, option pricing when investors can't perfectly hedge, and the fiscal theory of the price level.

A research associate and past director of the asset pricing program of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Fellow of the Econometric Society, he has been an editor of the Journal of Political Economy, and associate editor of a number of journals including the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Journal of Business, and the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. His recent publications include the book, Asset Pricing, and numerous articles on his research topics.


CRSP is pleased to announce that Jonathan Sokobin will be the keynote speaker on Tuesday morning, November 4. His keynote speech is titled "Securitization, SIV’s and CDS Settlement: Causes and Consequences of a Credit Crunch." Recently Dr. Sokobin was named the Securities and Exchange Commission's Director of Risk Assessment, which is responsible for helping SEC Divisions and Offices develop new ways to anticipate emerging issues and address potential problems in the securities markets.

Dr. Sokobin has been Deputy Chief Economist at the SEC since 2002 and helped bolster efforts in all areas of the SEC's Office of Economic Analysis, including market structure, market intermediaries, corporate governance and disclosure, mutual funds, technical assistance to foreign regulators, examinations, and enforcement. He joined the SEC in 1998 and served as Senior Research Fellow until 2000, and as Financial Economist from 2000 to 2002. Jonathan has twice earned an SEC Chairman's Award for Excellence, in 2000 and 2004.

Previously, Dr. Sokobin was an Assistant Professor of Finance at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He worked at the Center for Research in Security Prices while at the University of Chicago, where earned his MBA and Ph.D.
